Use of the verb to be in the present simple

We use the verb be to talk about how things look and feelings.

  He is short.             We are happy.         It is dark.    I am hungry.

We use the verb be to talk about jobs:

   He is a mechanic.

We use the verb be to describe where people are:

   They are at school.

We use the verb be to talk about the age of a person:

   She is two years old.

We use the verb be to talk about the weather:

The weather is wet in nvember.    It is warm and sunny today.
